Week 1: BIM Fundamentals & 3D Modeling (LOD 100-300)
  • BIM Concepts & Standards: Introduction to the 5D BIM dimensions; understanding ISO 19650 standards and the transition from CAD to BIM.

  • The BIM Environment: Setting up project templates in industry-standard software (Autodesk Revit); understanding levels, grids, and the Level of Development (LOD) framework.

  • Parametric Modeling: Creating intelligent 3D components—walls, floors, roofs, and structural elements—where changes in one view reflect across the entire model.

  • Families & Content Creation: Building and managing parametric “Families” (Loadable vs. System families) to ensure data consistency.

  • Documentation & Detailing: Automatically generating floor plans, sections, elevations, and 3D perspectives directly from the central model.

Week 2: BIM Coordination & Integrated Project Delivery (4D-6D)
  • Clash Detection & Coordination: Using Navisworks to run interference checks between Architectural, Structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) models.

  • 4D Scheduling & 5D Costing: Linking the 3D model to project timelines (4D) for construction sequencing and extracting Material Take-offs (MTO) for cost estimation (5D).

  • BIM Collaboration (CDE): Managing data in a Common Data Environment using Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360) for real-time team synchronization.

  • Interoperability & IFC: Understanding the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format for sharing data between different BIM software platforms without losing intelligence.

  • Facility Management (6D): Preparing the “As-Built” model for the operations and maintenance phase, ensuring all equipment data is embedded for the end-user.

  • Capstone Project: Developing a coordinated building model, identifying and resolving clashes, and generating an automated quantity schedule and construction walkthrough.
